Stunning Architecture Meets Sustainability

The team at Seven Electrical are excited to be a part of this transformational project kicking off in January 2021, that honours our environment our history and our culture.

A special addition to Wellington's cityscape the Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre is scheduled to open in 2023. The site is in a perfect position, adjacent to Te Papa Tongarewa - Museum of New Zealand in Wellington's popular waterfront precinct, central to Wellington's prominent culinary scene, world-class accommodation and just a 5-minute walk to the Cuba street mall. A multifunction space, it will be the perfect venue for conferences, conventions, touring exhibitions, cultural events, expos and business events, adding to the vibrant, cultural and artistic feel that Wellington is renowned for.

The building has been designed by studiopacificarchitecture and built by the LT McGuinness Ltd. construction team with Seven Electrical carrying out the main electrical installation. The building is spread across three floors, a vast 10,000 square metres which include 2,500 Square meters of exhibition space. The design was influenced by Maori mythology, particularly Te Ūpoko-o-te-Ika-a-Māui (Maui’s head of the fish) as well as the city's infamous windy weather and stunning hilly landscape.

The team at Seven Electrical are proud to be supporting LT McGuinness Ltd. With such an exciting forward-thinking project. The Tākina has been designed with the environment in mind, and once completed it will achieve a five-star NZ Greenstar rating. An amazing accomplishment and an important example of sustainable convention centres in Aotearoa. The building will include sustainable features and adaptable systems which will emit 60-70% less carbon and use 60-70% less energy than comparable buildings.

Something we think is well worth celebrating at Aotea. We look forward to seeing the end result.
